Built in the 1980s, Beachcomber House is a classic but quirky example of that decade’s design style. The space feels generous and flows well, making it perfect for family groups of up to 12 and we welcome dogs.

Revamped for its launch in summer 2023, we’ve retained and enhanced the 1980s ‘feel’. Using splashes of bold colour and pattern, and retaining some marvelously kitsch design features, we’ve created a comfortable modernized home with a ‘nod to the 80s’.

Our communal spaces are for families to be together (or not):
- The games room is a new addition with something for everyone, from play for the little ones, to a separate bar area for grown-ups. It really helps to make family holidays entertaining, whatever the weather!
- The living room is set up to be used as two ‘halves’, one facing towards our marvelously kitsch mock stone fireplace and one towards the TV, but guests are welcome to move the furniture around the 70” TV for a cinematic experience. Alternatively, if there’s no one around, you could borrow a book from the library and curl up quietly to read.
- The conservatory is one of the few communal areas not designed for 12 people with 4 comfy chairs looking on to our lovely garden.
- The breakfast room provides an informal dining area for a quick bite or for more formal dining, the dining room seats 12 - great for celebrations.
- The dining room has been designed as multi-function space - there are 3 tables that can be placed together for dining or used separately as desk space. There is fast wi-fi throughout the house.

Our gardens are informal. The back garden has a large lawn and pretty flower beds, perfect for lounging in the sun, having a BBQ or playing games. The front garden has a meadow lawn and a large in/out drive for multiple cars. We have a pay-as-you-go electric car charging point.

Our bedrooms have been designed as great places to relax and get a good night’s sleep with blackout blinds or curtains, comfortable beds, sumptuous headboards and 400 t/c linen. The family bathroom or ‘blue bathroom’ has a large double ended bath, perfect for a relaxing soak, and walk in shower. There’s another shower room on the first floor and one on the ground floor.

Guests have access to the entire house.

As you might guess from our delightful view, the beach is only a stone’s throw away. Throughout the year, simply the best thing about Broadstairs are the beaches. There are seven (yes seven!) breathtaking beaches. Our local beach, Dumpton Gap, which is the last of the beaches from north to south, is fabulous. It’s mainly sand with some rocks and flints, it disappears and reappears with each tide to reveal new treasures. It’s much less busy than the main town beaches - it’s a local secret! It’s great for children to swim and explore in summer and walking the dog in winter. It’s one of the few beaches with no dog walking restrictions year round.

Broadstairs town is only a 10-minute walk away and one of the best bits is the walk! There are various ways to walk into Broadstairs, the most direct route takes 10 minutes, or you can take the high-level Western Esplanade, gazing out to sea at yachts sailing to Ramsgate Marina, or walk along the undercliff (a man-made path in the cliff) or the actual beach, to Viking Bay via Louisa Bay.

Once you’re there, Broadstairs is a delightful seaside resort with everything you’d expect and more; charming bucket and spade shops, beach huts, two surf schools, beach cafes, a Michelin stared restaurant … there’s just so much to discover.

Broadstairs is sandwiched between the equally fascinating seaside resorts of Margate and Ramsgate but it’s quite possible you won’t have time for them!

Parking at Beachcomber House couldn't be more convenient. The large in-out drive can accommodate at least five cars and you can also easily park on the street. We also have a pay-as-you-go electric vehicle charging point.

When you’ve parked and unpacked, the beaches and towns of Broadstairs and Ramsgate are within walking distance. You can walk to Broadstairs in 10 minutes and Ramsgate in 20 minutes. There’s a looped walking route taking you through Thanet and the coastal towns, which is also great to cycle.

Driving:
It’s easy to drive into Broadstairs from Beachcomber House but parking can be a bit of a challenge, particularly when it’s busy in summer and for special events. Parking in the very centre of town is paid for either on-street or in one of several car parks. This is the same for other tourist destinations in Thanet and Kent.

Cabs:
There are several cab firms in Broadstairs and Thanet.

Bus:
In summer you can catch the marvelous 69 open top bus into Ramsgate from the bus stop by the entrance to Dumpton Gap Beach on the Western Esplanade. Thanet is generally well served with buses but unfortunately no local buses stop near the house.

Train:
Broadstairs Station is on the High Speed 1 (HS1) route from London St Pancras. HS1 loops around Kent, so will take you to any of Kent’s seaside resorts as well as our world-famous tourist destinations like Canterbury Cathedral and Dover Castle.

We absolutely loved our stay! The location is great with a lovely walk along the sea and has plenty to do even out of season. The house was a home from home. So much effort and detail has gone into the house and it was so appreciated. We had kids ranging from 4-14 and there was something for all of them as well as being perfect for us adults too. The house is so well equipped and is to such a high standard but so comfortable and homely too. We cannot wait to come back, our stay was absolutely faultless. Thank you so much

Amazing house in a great location. Very well equipped, spacious, lots of different areas to socialise and relax in, with beautiful decor throughout. The hosts, Helen and Dean, have obviously put a lot of thought into every detail to make your stay very welcoming and comfortable, a rather nice home from home! They were also very responsive/helpful, accommodating a late fury guest and giving us extra info on room suitability for my mother-in-law. To cap it off, as a Christmas stay, they supplied a lovely tree, lights and a beautifully decorated dining room, for the perfect cosy family dinner. Would definitely visit again!
